Choosing the right sauna size

Sauna capacity is generally stated as a maximum seating guide, not a maximum comfort guide. Use the points below to specify what will work best for your needs.

Practical sizing rules

Typical sizing scenarios

Use case What to allow for
Single regular user A compact sauna can work well, but choose enough bench length if you want to stretch out.
Couple A 2 person sauna may be enough, but a 3 person layout usually feels more comfortable.
Family use Prioritise movement, access and a layout that lets people sit without crowding the door or heater.
Occasional guests Size around normal use first. A 4 person sauna may feel better for 2–3 regular users.
Social use Consider L-shaped or opposing benches so users can face each other rather than sit in a single row.
Relaxed home sauna Allow more width per person, space for towels, accessories and easier movement.
Commercial sauna Consider peak demand, session turnover, safe movement, cleaning access and customer comfort.

Rule of thumb: Allow around 1kW per 1m³ of effective sauna volume. Extra glass, tile, stone, and log construction can push the requirement higher.

Getting your new sauna up and running

Harvia and Tylö sauna kits are well made and typically straightforward to assemble, with clear, model-specific instructions. If you’re comfortable with flat-pack furniture, you’ll be fine.

Pre-installation: Plan the location, and a solid, level base. For traditional saunas, book a qualified electrician for the heater connection.

  • Home: Check your clearances and ventilation, and have a level base ready. If you’re genuinely stuck, call us for expert advice.
  • Commercial: Same basics as home. Have your electrician verify the building supply early. Some larger heaters may need 3-phase power. Speak to us about your installation if you need advice.
  • Infrared: Cabins with a UK 3-pin plug are plug-and-play into a standard wall socket. Avoid extension leads. Hybrid models with separate sauna heater will need a qualified electrician for the connection.

We offer free delivery in the UK on a range of products over £100.

Introducing the Harvia UTU Medium (aka UTU Triple). This 1.6 x 1.6m 3 person sauna is a spacious and luxurious haven designed for relaxation. With generous dimensions, this designer sauna provides ample room for three people to enjoy a soothing, shared wellness experience.

Beautifully crafted from premium thermally modified aspen, the UTU Triple boasts panels and benches that are built for lasting durability and comfort.

The Harvia UTU Medium features a full glass door, made from 8mm tempered glass. This allows natural light to flood the interior. Inside, the carefully engineered rock wool insulation ensures consistent, efficient heat distribution throughout the sauna.

Like the other Harvia UTU models, the Medium is easy to assemble with pre-cut components, making it ideal for a DIY installation. The integrated RGBW LED lighting lets you tailor the ambiance to suit your mood for the perfect sauna experience.
