Our two person saunas are designed to comfortably accommodate two individuals. Here’s our comprehensive explanation of a 2 person sauna, focusing on various aspects including type, wood sizes and additional features.

Common types of 2 person sauna rooms

Due to the limited dimensions of 2 man saunas there are only 2 types available. These are infrared saunas and traditional saunas with electric sauna heaters. Wood burning saunas need to be a minimum size and so are not suitable for just 2 people.

  • 2 person infrared saunas: Two person infrared saunas are generally designed for indoor use. This type of sauna uses infrared panels fixed to the walls that emit radiant heat to directly warm your body. They are known for their energy efficiency and quick heat-up times. Infrared saunas can feature carbon fibre panels or ceramic heaters.
  • 2 person traditional saunas: Traditional two-person saunas, also known as Finnish saunas, use a heated electric stove with rocks to generate heat. Traditional saunas rely on convection to warm the air, creating a hot and humid environment. These saunas are typically constructed with wood and can be customised with different types of sauna heaters, sauna stones, and ventilation systems.

Types of wood used for 2 man saunas

Whilst insulated wood panelling is used for all indoor sauna construction, it is not a hard and fast rule for the exterior. For example, 2 man bathroom saunas often use waterproof, treated panels to help the sauna align with the bathroom décor.

The most popular woods for traditional saunas are generally cedar, spruce, aspen and pine. For 2 man infrared saunas (which are a dry experience) the most widely used wood is hemlock.

Frequently asked questions for 2 person saunas

How much does it cost to run a 2 person sauna?

The cost to run a 2 person sauna depends on the type of sauna, duration and frequency of use, and local energy rates. A 2 man infrared sauna is generally considered to be more energy-efficient than a 2 person traditional sauna. This is because it takes less time to heat the body.

To estimate the running cost, check the sauna’s power consumption (in kilowatts) and multiply it by the cost of electricity per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in your area. For example, if your sauna consumes 2kW and the electricity cost is £0.12 per kWh, running the sauna for an hour would cost approximately £0.24.

What is the smallest size for a 2 person sauna?

For a two-person sauna, the smallest size can vary, but a common compact size might be around 4 to 5 feet wide, 4 to 5 feet deep, and 6 to 7 feet tall. Consider the available space in your home or bathroom and check the dimensions provided by the sauna manufacturer.
